When I was a small child (age 3) I broke my leg. My foot was broken also, but at the time the doctors missed that break which was in my arch. As I got older (I am 66) it has started to bother me (my left arch). After a major operation in 2008 I used a tread mill for about a year to stay in shape, but the arch flammed up so bad I had to stop so ordered this unit. After some expermenting with settings I set this for two minutes at a residence 7 then two minutes at 5 then back to 7/5 and on. I do this for 40 minutes and try to maintain at or above 16 MPH. I work out with it for 40 minutes and it shows I burn just over 400 calories and have traveled over 10 miles. If you have a problem where weight or jarring is to much to endure, then I highly recommed one of these. I use it 5 days a week at 2:00 AM in the morning (I get up at that time) and I stick to that schedule.
