About Exercise Bikes
Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

Summary: Buyer beware - common error 2008-08-15
Comment: I have never felt compelled to post a review on Amazon but then again, I've never spent a large sum of money on exercise equipment only to have it completely cease operation. I did significant research before purchasing the bike including confirming the rating of consumer reports. I saw a few amazon reviews with mention of an error but they were offset by positive after positive review. I received the bike and assembled it without issue. Five rides in and I get the dreaded E-2 message. I am now set to begin the process of replacing parts to troubleshoot exactly what is malfunctioning. Subsequent internet searches have turned up consumer after consumer who has encountered the error and been left to replace the console, motor and/or wires. Most comment that customer service at Schwinn is good but I would prefer to not have to call the customer service department at all, particularly when it appears this error has been a problem for some time based upon the online posts. Buyer beware...If you actually want use of the bike, this may not be the one for you.

Summary: Pretty good! 2008-03-20
Comment: This is a wonderful exercise bike. I am 5' tall. I only have 2 issues that I did read about in other reviews when I purchased this exercise bike.

1. Being short, it is hard to view the display and the display is fixed, will not move up or down.

2. The seat, after a few uses by me and a few other family members, did become "loose" at the top. The bar stays fixed, but the seat itself tilts forward and back randomly as you exercise. We are going to have to drill an extra hole somewhere and secure the seat so that it cannot move.

Delivery was fine. The box arrived in good shape, the bike itself was very well packaged to avoid damage, it was easy to assemble and pretty compact!

Summary: Solid bike 2008-02-19
Comment: A good product. We've had it about six months, and it's seen fairly heavy use without any problems. It's built solidly, giving one a much better feeling than the rather cheaper model it replaced. Not terribly easy to put together, but not god-awful. One of the wheels on the base was damaged in shipping, but we didn't feel this a big enough problem to ship it back for a replacement. Controls are fairly intuitive, with an adequate range of programs and such. The fan isn't worth the plastic it's made of, but that is probably par for the course. Probably a good choice if you're looking for a mid-range product.

Summary: Great ride for the price 2007-12-30
Comment: I purchased the Schwinn exercise bike just before Thanksgiving because I knew what was coming. I am overweight and my heart doctor was upset at me for not exercising. This bike I felt was the answer. The bike has so many features and different programs to keep your interest instead of making it boring. It gives you a challenge if you want it or a nice easy ride if that is your choice. This was the answer to my problem and now my doctor is happier with me. The only downside to the bike is the seat - OUCH!- I had to purchase another type seat to make the "ride" more comfortable.
I recommend this bike. It gives you a lot for not a large price tag.

Summary: This bike is great 2007-11-16
Comment: I have used this bike over the past month and find it perfect for me. The seat is a bit hard, but not so much it is unusable. It was a great price and close enough to the machines found in a gym with the settings and tracking rpms and calories burned and such. It is seriously quiet when I am using it, so I don't have to turn up the TV.
Putting it together was a minor chore, but worth it. I haven't had a single problem with it.

UPDATE 06/30/08:
My bike (the computer bit) just stopped working for me. I checked all the connections I could, and then the bf did more (he's a mech engineer). Still no indications on what's wrong. Planning on contacting Schwinn for perhaps a replacement, but I am disappointed! It's not even a year old!
