Combing entertainment and comfort in equal measure, the ProForm 290 CSR recumbent exercise bike is ideal for home gyms. The 290 CSR is equipped with a GameFit interactive video game system, which includes four interactive video games to liven up your exercise routine. The harder you work when playing Blackjack, Texas Hold 'Em, Fat Blocker, or Calorie Destroyer, the easier the games become. There's no better incentive to stay fit. As an alternative, you can use the 20 personal trainer workouts to shake up your fitness regimen. Each personal trainer workout automatically adjusts the resistance level to help you achieve aerobic, weight loss, or performance goals. The speed and time of each workout is predetermined, so the only thing you have to worry about is pressing start.
It's the built-in sound system and iFit compatibility that really distinguish the 290 CSR, however. The sound system includes an Interplay music port that lets you plug your iPod or MP3 player into the console, along with an Intermix Acoustics 2.0 sound system. The system produces a broad range of frequencies and rich, equalized sound. The bike's iFit workout card technology, meanwhile, helps you lose weight, feel great, and improve performance in just eight weeks. Each card (sold separately) is designed by a certified personal trainer and plugs directly into the bike's console, where it automatically adjusts your resistance while the voice of Jillian Michaels, "America's toughest trainer," coaches you through each workout.
Comfort-wise, the 290 CSR boasts a recumbent-style frame that's easier to get on and off than a traditional bike. Other features include 16 digital resistance levels; dual-grip EKG heart rate monitors built into the handlebars; an adjustable, oversized seat with a lumbar support; a Grafixx touch dial and touchscreen display that tracks your time, distance, calories, and pulse; and a 300-pound capacity. The 290 CSR is protected by a five-year warranty on the frame and a 90-day warranty on parts and labor.

I am recovering from a long illness during which I have been mostly sedentary, am now doing better and need exercise. I was looking for a recumbent that has a comfortable seat and is solid, not rickety like so many of the cheaper bikes can be. This bike is great, very sturdy, easy to get in/out of. Screen is easy to read, comes on as soon as I start pedaling and turns off about a minute after I stop pedaling. I don't have to program it every time I get on, since all I want to do right now is hop on and pedal at the lowest resistance setting, which comes on automatically! I like the readouts, including speed, distance, time elapsed, and calories burned. I'm not too sure about the accuracy of the heart rate monitor, it seems to jump around alot. You can use batteries or plug it in, but you need to plug it in at the front of the bike, the cord from the console is not very long.
My husband put the bike together in about an hour and a half, it seemed to be very easy to...Read more

Solid and Smooth, May 19, 2011

I warm up on a bike at the gym 2-3 days a week, and this seemed to be the closest to gym quality that I could find in a personal bike . It's solid, stable, and smooth. The downside is that it was a pain to assemble, esp. the wire harness as others have mentioned, but once past that, it's a dream to ride. One of the unessential plastic parts was cracked when I received the bike, but the mfr. sent a replacement super fast. I wish the display panel was a little bigger and that the place to set my iPod was lower so that I could read it while I exercise, but aside from those minor inconveniences, this bike is a great piece of equipment.

I bought this bike several months ago and it works as it is intended to. The seat is comfortable but, I always felt like I was sliding off(forward)! I had to make an adjustment...I put six inches of wooden planks under the front end and raised it up. I don't slide forward anymore. The multiple workout levels are great. The games are a nice distraction. Overall, I like this bike...except for the sliding forward thing!
