About Recumbent Exercise Bikes
Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out.

The term recumbent literally means "lying down." Exercising in a recumbent or reclining position allows the user to have full ergonomic back support, without causing strain on the arms, neck and shoulders, all of which can be common effects of using an upright bicycle. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

Summary: Great exercise bike! 2009-03-25
Comment: This is a great bike. Assembly is not easy to do alone if you're a weakling like me - have someone around to help because some of the parts are heavy. Once it's assembled, you'll love it.

I've used this bike almost everyday for the past year and it's still like new. I love the different pre-programmed rides and knowing how many calories I've burned. The bike can tell you your heart rate using sensors in the handles, although it also comes with a wireless monitor that you strap around your chest (too inconvenient, but probably more accurate.)

The way that the bike uses an electromagnet to control the resistance is amazing. When you stop to take a break or answer the phone, the resistance is automatically reduced, and it ramps up when you start pedaling again. I used to own one of those old style bikes with friction resistance, and this one is 100x nicer.

Summary: Met my expectations 2009-02-21
Comment: Works just as expected. The only feature that would be nice would include a "notched" seat adjustment. Difficult to get the exact setup each time if your sharing the bike. It is comfortable and provides expected HR, calorie burning, etc. Very good overall quality! Purchased this brand and quality level since we have had an elliptical for 5 years and still looks and functions as new. Compares to gym quality. You won't be disappointed.

Summary: Great Product!!! 2009-02-03
Comment: I did not have any issues putting this bike together and took 1.5 hours to complete. The instructions were well written and very easy to follow. I also did not have any screw related issues that others have mentioned. This is an extremely well made bike that should provide a decade of enjoyment. Amazon had a great price on this the first week of January 2009 but it currently is out of stock with no estimate when it will be available. I wonder if Nautilus is introducing a new model. Highly Recommended!!

Summary: Bad service 2009-02-02
Comment: I received my bike early December 2008. When I put the bike together, I found that 4 screws were missing. These were to hold the back cover for the computer console. I called the company (Nautilus), and they wanted me to pay for the 4 screws, implying that I lost them. I told them I did not lose them. They then said they would send the screws to me, but I have yet to receive them...February 2, 2009.

Summary: A very happy customer - highly recommended 2008-09-10
Comment: The Nautilus NR2000 is a very high quality recumbent exercise bike that fills a gap between the less expensive products widely available to home users, and the much more expensive commercial grade equipment commonly seen in health clubs. The NR2000 offers heart-rate controlled programs and wireless telemetry just like the fully featured health club machines, but won't look out of place in even the most fashion-forward home environment. I did run into a few minor glitches during assembly, but comparing the written instructions with the parts drawings and the actual parts revealed that the drawings and bike as shipped were accurate and in agreement; only some of the narrative was misleading. In using the bike, I found that the hard plastic pedals were slippery and my feet would creep and slide off the pedals no matter how tightly the supplied straps were adjusted. Instead, I equipped the bike with a pair of 1/2" male to 9/16" female pedal adapters (Kneesavers) and a set of Look-style clipless pedals. Wearing rigid sole cycling shoes with Look-compatible cleats, my feet snap right into the pedals and stay comfortably in place even during vigorous exercise. Although I had to invest another $150 or so to make the bike work well for me, I still consider it a very cost-effective investment considering the years of service and health benefits it will undoubtedly provide. And as always, the purchase from amazon.com was painless, including the best experience I've ever had with a truck freight delivery to my home.

Pros -
Stability, silent operation, flexible programs, cosmetic appearance, perceived quality

Cons -
Pedals (comparable to competing products), requires external power (some machines generate power from the user's activity), assembly instructions should be updated/corrected
