Upright vs. Indoor Cycling Bikes
An upright exercise bike is designed for the user to sit on the seat and use built-in programming. When the flywheel moves, the pedals don't move without pedaling. An indoor cycling bike, by contrast, includes a heavy front flywheel that's designed to simulate the feel of outdoor cycling on a mountain or road bike. When the flywheel moves, the pedals also move. And unlike regular exercise bikes, which come to a stop when you remove your foot from the pedal, an indoor bike will continue to move. The result is a natural cycling motion that feels just like riding a bike outdoors. This means if you tighten the resistance and come out of the saddle as you ride, you'll feel as if you're cycling up a steep hill. Indoor cycling offers a number of benefits: it provides a time-efficient calorie burn; it tones your muscles and decreases body fat; it increases cardio endurance; it improves your overall strength; and it relieves stress.
