About Recumbent Exercise Bikes
Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out.

The term recumbent literally means "lying down." Exercising in a recumbent or reclining position allows the user to have full ergonomic back support, without causing strain on the arms, neck and shoulders, all of which can be common effects of using an upright bicycle. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

Summary: Excellent value to cost ratio. 2010-07-13
Comment: Sturdy and smooth.
Many exercise bikes have one thing in common - they flex and creak way too much. This one does not. It will slightly flex when giving it high RPMs at very high resistances, but it's not more flex than an actual bicycle would give you. The resistance and action feels very smooth.
NO BS.
No bells and whistles. A couple of programs displayed on a small screen with four buttons. No stupid computer fans, elaborate magazine racks, sporty graphics, memory or any of that crap.

Appropriately comfortable.
Many exercise bikes have seats that look like they would stink from soaking up your sweat. They're too thick, feel like a couch. You need firm support that's easy to clean and won't make you go numb - and this seat does that. Excellent lumbar curve, and if you grip the back of the handlebar, you can maintain proper posture during sprints.

Bottom line:
It feels almost as good as the commercial one I use at physical therapy - and that is a $4,000 machine. It also feels a million times better than the common ones like schw___ and naut____. This is one of those rare occasions where you will get more than you paid for. If this bike proves to last more than a year of heavy use, I would say that it's worth the price. However, I'm thinking it's going to last at least 5 before it needs replacement parts.

Oh yeah - it looks good too. It's the simplest, cleanest design out there. Get an equipment mat and put it in your living room - it won't look bad.

Summary: Good bike for those who are motivated 2010-07-08
Comment: I picked this bike up this spring and have ridden it between fifteen and twenty times a month for the last few months. I feel great when I am riding it, and I feel even better after I get done with a long ride. It is easy to assemble (albeit very heavy) and requires at least one very strong person to move it any great distance once put together. I recommend having two people to move it if you think you'll have to do so once it is assembled.

The one gripe I have against this, and I think it may be just because it is a somewhat cheaper model is that I cannot do custom routines. There are quite a few pre-programmed rides to choose from, and the timing options are pretty flexible but I would like to be have a little more granular control over the resistance and time. That being said, it gets the calories burned and I guess that is what counts. Also, I have some doubts as to the accuracy of the calorimeter. When I ride, sometimes I can feel myself pushing very hard and riding quite a bit faster than normal (perhaps 10 - 15% faster) and in my mind this should result in a higher calorie count at the end of the ride since the amount of energy burned and the distance are directly related. There may be something happening in the background that I am not aware of, but I think if you ride at a certain effort level even if you begin to push yourself the calorimeter will not reflect it.

Summary: Quality and Quiet 2010-06-14
Comment: Just received this recumbent bike. I had looked online and reviewed several bikes and this one appeared to be worth the cost. So far, I have not been any happier - assembled within 2 hours, whisper quiet, and very stable. Worked up a decent sweat for a 30min workout @ 285 calories burned. Looking forward to years of enjoyment.

Summary: Great item, Delivery something different 2010-02-04
Comment: Overall, the bike is very well made, and seems to live up to all the positive user comments in other reviews. Delivery is a different story however. The ad states that the item takes 4-5 extra days. What you don't know until it is ordered is that the selling vendor gets them from the manufacturer, you go through 3 parties involved in getting the item to your door. Our 3.5 week wait was frustrating. It may not be the norm, and free shipping for a 165 pound item is a good deal.

Summary: The Bike 2009-12-07
Comment: It takes a bit of doing to assemble the Bike but it's well worth it.

Beautiful, well engineered, and lives up to the PR info that was provided.

No complaints yet.
