About Exercise Bikes
Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

Summary: Not bad for the price 2008-10-27
Comment: Well, for $180, I can't complain too much. Unlike another reviewer, I didn't have a problem with the resistance being to low (maybe I'm just not as serious of a biker). I found that I - a 21 year old, reasonably healthy male, 180 lbs - could get a challenging workout on the level 4 resistance setting, and the bike goes up to level 8. Overall the bike performs well, and is reasonably comfortable.

My two real complaints were that the heart rate monitor was not accurate at all, and the calorie counter was pretty useless, seeing as it didn't even let you enter in a height, weight, age, or sex (don't really use that, but I know a lot of women like that feature). I didn't really expect a lot of fancy electronics on a $180 exercise bike, so no surprise there. If you don't use the HR monitor, or you have another one, this bike is a great workout tool.

Summary: you get what you pay for 2008-03-16
Comment: The bike is sturdy and quiet and the seat is comfortable. This is not a machine for a serious cyclist looking to improve performance. The maximum resistance setting is not particularly challenging and the pedaling action is less smooth as the resistance is increased. Handlebars are positioned in a way that makes it difficult to stretch out road-bike style and if your inseam is more than 32" don't buy this bike because the maximal seat height will not be comfortable for tall riders.
Even with these drawbacks, I can still manage to get a reasonably challenging 30 minute workout when the outside weather does not permit real cycling. This equipment would be ideally suited for the non-athlete who likes to read or watch TV during a light workout. (The monitor is ideally suited for one of those plastic reading racks).
